A self contained flock of 800 improved Welsh breeding ewes is kept with 250 ewe lamb replacements. The ewes are brought inside shortly before lambing which takes place in early April. With their freshly born lambs they are moved to their summer pastures in May. Short, clover rich pastures containing palatable hill grasses are ideal. The lambs are naturally weaned from their mothers in September and moved onto clean pastures.

The organic reared lambs are slaughtered locally and sold to organic outlets. Hopefully, they should have good taste, shape and finish.

A mixture of sheep and cattle grazing, and avoiding overstocking reduces the risk of disease. Well bred animals must be allowed sufficient feed and space in order to grow healthily.
